New vehicle categories are as follows: Vehicle category D2: automobiles for more than 7 persons including the driver, and cargo vehicles and campers of a maximum permissible gross weight of 3.5 tons. Vehicle category U: trailers of vehicles in categories D2 and B2.

Based on the registration certificate, how do I know which toll category a vehicle belongs in?

All data related to road use authorization and attached to a vehicle (registration number, maximum permissible gross weight of the motor vehicle and its trailer) must be established on the basis of the official entries appearing in the registration certificate. The road use authorization is valid for all toll sections within the given time period. Cars and trailers are classified in one of the following vehicle categories (based on Decree 5/1990. (IV. 12.) KöHÉM on the technical inspection of road vehicles):

The seating capacity of a vehicle must be determined on the basis of the official entry appearing in the registration certificate (S.1. – Number of seats, including the driver’s seat) rather than on the basis of the number of seats actually seen in the vehicle. For vehicles in categories D2 and B2 used for towing, an e-vignette in category U needs to be purchased for the registration number of the trailer.
